Dr Zeus - Testing of HV Suit w Twin Musical Tesla Coils

Dr Zeus does preliminary tests of his High Voltage suit with Twin Solid State Musical Tesla coils, at the 2007 Lightning on the Lawn Teslathon sponsored by DC Cox (Resonance Research Corp) in Baraboo WI.

Dr Zeus is Terry Blake inside his custom made high voltage suit. The suit is made of various flexible metal parts including chainmail and several types of screen. The suit directs the electrical energy around Terry, allowing him to safely interact with electrical arcs that span over 12 feet.

Terry starts at low power and works up to full power, making sure the suit is safe. In addition to his chainmail covered hand, much testing is done with a standard fluorescent light and a neon gas tube, which can be fully illuminated by the energy from the Tesla Coils, without wires. Dr Zeus eventually stands on an insulating plastic sheet, which forces the energy to emerge as sparks from his feet to get to earth ground. This also allows the sparks to be redirected to other objects by Dr Zeus.

The high voltage is generated by solid state Tesla coils. The Tesla coils are 7 feet tall, 18 feet apart, and can put out over 12 foot sparks. A laptop computer can be used to send midi commands to the coils via fiber optic link to generate music. These coils were constructed by Steve Ward and Jeff Larson.

Dr Zeus w Wood, Neon, Gloves, vs Twin Musical Tesla Coils

Dr Zeus battles Twin Solid State Musical Tesla coils with a wooden stick, a neon tube, and his glove covered hands, at the 2007 Lightning on the Lawn Teslathon sponsored by DC Cox (Resonance Research Corp) in Baraboo WI.

The wood is a 2x2 that is 4 foot long, which the sparks did not take much interest in. The neon tube is a 3 foot long glass tube filled with neon gas, enclosed in a clear plastic insulator rod. The arcs are often seen hitting the top of the neon tube, traveling down through the neon, then exiting the bottom of the tube and climbing the outside of the tube to get to Dr Zeus's hand. The neon tube can be seen fully illuminated by the energy from the Tesla Coils, without wires.

"Dr. Zeus" and Dueling Musical Tesla Coils (w Incandescent Light Bulbs)

Captured at the 2007 Cheesehead Teslathon, sponsored by DC Cox (Resonance Research Corp) on September 8, 2007 in Baraboo, WI. Shows some Chicago-area Tesla coilers at play! Dr. Zeus (Terry Blake) dressed in a specially constructed personal Faraday Cage takes high voltage "hits" from two identical high power solid state coils. The coils, constructed by Steve Ward and Jeff Larson, are driven from a single Laptop PC by two MIDI outputs. You can see sparks jumping from Dr. Zeus's feet when he's standing on a sheet of 1/4" polyethylene. The current from Steve Ward's coil easily lights a string of 120 volt incandescent light bulbs. Sometimes the high frequency current takes a short cut, jumping between filament supports rather than flowing through the filaments. Something you don't see every day... :^)

The music that you hear is coming from the sparks that these two identical high power solid state Tesla coils are generating. There are no speakers involved. The Tesla coils stand 7 feet tall and are each capable of putting out over 12 foot of spark. They are spaced about 18 feet apart. The coils are controlled over a fiber optic link by a single laptop computer. Each coil is assigned to a midi channel which it responds to by playing notes that are programed into the computer software. These coils were constructed by Steve Ward and Jeff Larson. Video was captured by Terry Blake. What is not obvious is how loud the coils are. They are well over 110dB
